About Jamaica’s IMO Council Bid


The Government of Jamaica has submitted its candidature for election to Category ā€œCā€ of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), for the period 2018-2019. Elections will be held during the 30th Regular Session of the IMO Assembly which is scheduled to be held in London, England, from 27 November 2017 – 8 December 2017.
Jamaica believes that it is of utmost importance that internationally accepted regulations be implemented to promote maritime safety, security, improved working conditions on board ships and enhanced pollution prevention measures consistent with the sustainable development goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
